Pregnancy comes with a long to-do list. There are doctor's appointments, a registry to build, a car seat to install, names to choose and plenty of advice from everyone you know. On top of that is the nursery, which is often the one project you've pictured since the moment you found out.

Then you start shopping. One site has the crib sheet, another has the skirt and a third has curtains that are almost the right shade of pink. You're comparing fabrics on screens that never show color the same way, measuring windows and wondering whether "blush" and "petal pink" will look good together.

If designing the nursery feels overwhelming, you're not alone. It's one of the most common things we hear from expecting parents and grandparents. That's why we made Liz and Roo a one-stop shop for nursery design: crib bedding sets with matching curtains and valances, sewn from the same fabrics, in the USA.

Why nursery design feels so overwhelming

It isn't just you. Designing a nursery is hard for a few reasons:

  • Too many choices. There are thousands of prints, colors and styles, spread across dozens of stores.
  • Pieces that don't match. Bedding from one brand and curtains from another rarely line up, even when the color names are the same.
  • Not knowing what you need. How many pieces come in a set? What's a crib skirt drop? Valance or full curtains?
  • Timing. Custom pieces take time to make, and babies don't always wait for the due date.
  • Energy. Late in pregnancy, spending weekends shopping and comparing isn't always realistic.

The good news is that one decision takes care of most of this: choose your crib bedding and curtains together, from the same collection.

The Liz and Roo approach: one collection, one cohesive nursery

Each Liz and Roo collection is designed to be layered. Your crib bedding set, curtains, valance and accent pieces are sewn from coordinating fabrics, so everything matches without the guesswork.

What you get:

  • Crib bedding sets from 2 to 10 pieces, with a sheet, skirt and rail cover plus optional bows and accents. Shop crib bedding sets →
  • Matching curtains or valances in the same fabric family. Shop nursery window treatments →
  • Your choice of lining. Curtains come with a regular liner or an upgraded blackout liner to keep the nursery dark for naps.
  • Your choice of hanging style. Pick a classic rod pocket or tab top. Here's how to hang tab top curtains in 6 easy steps.
  • Standard or custom sizes. Curtains come as a pair of 50"-wide panels in standard lengths (84", 96" and, in many fabrics, 108"). Valances measure 50" x 17". Need something different? Leave your measurements in the order notes.
  • Made in the USA. We oversee every piece we sew, from fabric to finishing.

How to design your nursery in 5 simple steps

1. Choose one collection you love

Start with the crib bedding set. It's the focal point of the room. Pick a print or color that feels like you, then build around it. Browse all of our crib bedding sets if you're deciding between sets.

2. Order free fabric swatches

Colors on screens are never quite right. Order free fabric swatches and hold them up to your wall color, rug and furniture before you commit.

3. Measure your windows

Measure the width of each window and the height from where your rod will hang to where you'd like the curtains to fall. Standard panels come in 84", 96" and (in many fabrics) 108" lengths. A valance (50" x 17") is a great choice for a smaller window or a softer look.

4. Order curtains early

Our curtains are custom sewn to order in the USA, and most ship in about four to six weeks. Some prints take longer, so check each product page. We recommend ordering your window treatments as soon as you've chosen your collection so everything arrives well before your due date.

5. Finish with the details

Add a matching crib skirt in the right drop length. Browse our crib skirts by drop length and style. Then add oversized bows, a monogrammed crib rail cover or a coordinating changing pad cover.

A quick safety note for nursery planning

A beautiful nursery should be a safe one too. Two simple guidelines:

  • Keep the crib simple inside. The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends a firm, flat mattress with a fitted sheet, and no pillows, blankets, bumpers or soft toys in the sleep space. Our bedding is bumperless. Skirts and rail covers dress the outside of the crib, and blankets and shams are decor for the room.
  • Place the crib away from windows. The Consumer Product Safety Commission recommends moving cribs away from windows and window covering cords, preferably to another wall, and choosing cordless window coverings. Our curtains hang from a rod with a rod pocket or tab top, so they have no pull cords. Still, place the crib on a different wall from the window.
