Features of the new UPPAbaby MESA V2

For the first time in UPPAbaby’s history, the MESA car seat is changing, improving both safety and comfort. The new MESA V2 is expected to be on the market by September, 2022. NOTE:  Photos of the new MESA V2 are not yet available.

The UPPAbaby MESA V2 will offer sleek, new colors and new features like additional side impact protection, a larger sun canopy, a more secure seatbelt installation method, and more.

The good news:  both the original MESA and MESA V2 models will continue to be sold by UPPAbaby, offering choices in price, colors, and features.  Importantly, both car seats fit all model years of UPPAbaby strollers and use the exact same car seat base.

Here’s a summary of the new features of the MESA V2 and comparisons to the original MESA.

PRICE – The UPPAbaby MESA V2 is higher priced than the original MESA. NOTE:  Both models have two price points: one for the polyester blend fabrics and a higher price point for carseats with merino wool, a natural fabric that’s more breathable, hypoallergenic and moisture-wicking.

The MESA V2 offers two styles with merino wool—Greyson Charcoal Melange and Gregory Blue Melange.

WEIGHT – The MESA V2 weighs the same as the MESA, and both models can be used for approximately one year, depending on your baby’s height.

One difference: The MESA V2 has a redesigned infant insert that can be used until your baby reaches 11 pounds, compared with the 8-pound limit on the MESA’s insert. The new insert is more supportive for a newborn, with a curved shape and side wings designed to prevent slouching.

Because of the redesigned insert that simplifies the fit of the car seat for a newborn, the MESA V2 now has one crotch buckle position instead of the two positions that require an adjustment on the MESA.

CANOPY: The canopy on the UPPAbaby MESA V2 is 20 percent larger than the previous model, offering better sun protection for your baby! Both canopies are made from the same material and retract into the seat when not in use.

FEATURES: The headrest on the UPPAbaby MESA V2 is now larger to provide better head containment and better side impact protection.

The handlebar on the V2 model now also functions as a safety feature. While the handlebar of the Mesa includes three handlebar positions, the MESA V2 adds a fourth position that acts as an anti-rebound bar. When installed in a car, the handlebar can be rotated toward the back of the vehicle seat, providing a counterbalance that can inhibit movement of the seat in a collision.

INSTALLATION:  Both the UPPAbaby MESA V2 and the MESA can be installed without the base if you’re traveling or taking a taxi.  The UPPAbaby MESA V2 offers a new and improved seatbelt-only installation method.

STYLES:  The UPPAbaby MESA V2 comes in five new colors that match the colors of the VISTA and CRUZ lines. Additionally, all plastics on the MESA V2 are now a dark charcoal, compared with a light gray on the MESA. Importantly, all MESA V2 fabrics are free of flame-retardant chemicals. The MESA V2 is Greenguard Gold certified for chemical emissions standards.

COMPATIBILITY:  Both versions of the car seat attach to the UPPAbaby VISTA and CRUZ strollers without the need for adapters and disconnect with a one-handed push of a button. With adapters, you can also use either MESA on the UPPAbaby MINU stroller or the UPPAbaby RIDGE jogging stroller.
